In the mid-2000s Sato was active in the sound art group Great YEar soundings and in a duo with Yutaka Sakurai. Around the same time, he and Sakurai organized the improvised music concert series Night Music. Sato explores the possibilities of musical expression through performance centered on improvisation with various everyday objects and self-made instruments.
