Born in Tokyo in 1976. Improviser/composer. While he is probably best known as a laptop and guitar player, Unami performs on a wide variety of instruments and objects according to the situation--from piano and bass guitar to cardboard boxes and electric appliances such as vacuum cleaners. The music he plays and composes ranges from the familiar to the brazenly extreme, and he is a singular presence on the Japanese improvised music scene. Unami has also composed music for numerous movies. He has released recordings on the labels of many countries. He is the director of hibari music, which releases music and plans concerts. Taku Unami also has an established reputation as a producer and sound engineer.
