Formed in 2017, ON-ON is a group made up of composers and gagaku (court music)/hogaku (traditional Japanese music) performers who are current or former students of Tokyo University of the Arts. Through the collaboration of members with various specializations and backgrounds including classical music and jazz, they explore new expressive possibilities that overturn existing images of traditional music, while also carrying on inherited traditions. With a focus on collaborations with art, ON-ON presents not only concerts but works in a wide variety of formats including installations and dance performances. In recent years they have expanded their performance range to include electronics, improvisation and more. Their June 2018 performance at Ftarri in Suidobashi was highly praised. ON-ON has released the albums ON-ON Nama ni yoru Hogaku Sakuhin Ten (On On Live Hogaku Works Exhibition) and Aru Ikkoku no Niwa (A Momentary Garden).
