Masamichi Kinoshita

Born in 1969 in Ohno city, Fukui Prefecture. After gaining experience in the brass band and hard rock fields, Kinoshita studied music at Tokyo Gakugei University. He was also active in free jazz and group improvisation, as well as in a comedy band. Kinoshita was a finalist for the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award and the JSCM Award for Composers. He serves as an assistant at the Takefu International Music Festival / New Horizon. Currently, his main activities are composing various pieces commissioned by groups and individuals, as well as collaborative works; planning radical performances in cooperation with outstanding musicians; and performing improvised music using electric devices in unusual ways. In the past few years he has composed and premiered over 15 pieces annually, with a focus on chamber works. Several times a year he organizes the Looking Ahead series, an event introducing young musicians, at eitoeiko gallery in Kagurazaka, Tokyo. He is also invited to participate in the projects of many young composers and performers.
