Pianist Fumi Endo was born in Tokyo, where she now lives. She has been active as a performer, mainly of jazz and improvised music, since 2017. Endo started appearing at Ftarri in September 2020, and in March 2021 she and violist Yoko Ikeda digitally released the duo album Live at Ftarri, January 4, 2021 (ftarrilive-555).
On March 8, April 11 and June 27, 2021, Endo performed concerts at Ftarri with alto sax player Masahide Tokunaga. The concert in March was all improvisation; and in April and June, the two played their own compositions. Endo prepared simple scores--a staff-notated score for April and a text-based score for June--and performed them in duos with Tokunaga. This album is made up of those two performances, plus Endo's solo improvisation from the concert in March, for a total of three tracks.
