Yuma Takeshita: electro-bass
Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Yuma Takeshita at his home, June 21, 2019
Artwork and design by Cathy Fishman
Ftarri has released four CDs to commemorate the 7th anniversary (in August 2019) of the Ftarri shop in Suidobashi, Tokyo. This second CD is a solo album by Yuma Takeshita. Born in Osaka in 1982, Takeshita relocated in 2011 to Tokyo, where he still resides. Playing a modified electric bass with small self-made electronic devices attached to the body—he calls the instrument an "electro-bass," and just looking at it is fun—Takeshita produces not only the bass's original sound but also various electronic sounds in his highly original improvisational performances. In 2017, he released the duo CD Occurrence, Differentiation with Toshimaru Nakamura.
This album is comprised of 8 tracks 3-6 minutes each, recorded by Takeshita at his home in June 2019. He plays simple melodies using the bass’s original sound, over which he strews various sustained and short electronic noises. This outstanding work displays a uniquely Takeshita-like combination of melody and noise, as well as superb musicality.
