Ami Yoshida

Musician, writer and avant-garde pioneer Ami Yoshida began her musical career around 1990. In 2003 she released the solo album Tiger Thrush. In the same year, Astro Twin + Cosmos--a split two-CD set by Astro Twin, Yoshida's project with Utah Kawasaki, and Cosmos, her duo with Sachiko M--won the Golden Nica (grand prize) in the Digital Music Division of Ars Electronica. Yoshida was one of the originators of the "onkyo" style, a worldwide musical movement of the 1990s and 2000s. She is also a writer of novels, reviews and essays. Her writings include SummerSpring (Ota Publishing) and the novel Yuki-chan no iu koto wa zettai [Yuki-chan's word is law] (Kodansha). "Ami Yoshida, or, Yoshio Otani," her project with musician and critic Otani, carries out boundary-transcending experiments that include readings, music and literature. She has recently been engaged in original creative endeavors in the performing arts field.
